Health experts in Bangladesh have linked the surge to disruptions in vaccination programs. Benazir Ahmed, a former director of disease control at DGHS, pointed to the cancellation of a key immunisation initiative, which created a vaccine shortage and left many children vulnerable. The situation is particularly concerning as the country had set a goal to eliminate measles and rubella by 2026.
