Due to a possible magnet detachment issue, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a recall for 1.9 million Yeti brand coolers and soft gear cases. The Hopper M30 Soft Cooler 1.0 and 2.0, Hopper M20 Soft Backpack Cooler, and SideKick Dry Gear Box are a few of the products that the commission advised to recall. These goods were sold between March 2018 and January 2023 through a variety of outlets as well as online stores like Amazon and Yeti.

Yeti, the well-known brand, and manufacturer of the recalled goods said in a statement that it is cooperating with the commission and that it voluntarily took a decision to recall the concerned products. The recall was brought on by the over 1,400 reports of damaged or missing magnet-lined closures that the safety commission received. The commission cautions that if two or more magnets are ingested, they can result in serious injuries such as perforations, twisting, obstruction of the intestines, infection, or even death. Even though no magnet ingestions or injuries have been reported.

The recall comes as reports of toddlers and teens ingesting magnets have increased since 2018. According to the safety commission, hospital emergency rooms received 26,600 cases of magnet ingestion between 2010 and 2021, and at least seven fatalities were reported. More than half of children treated for injuries due to magnets require medical attention, according to a recent study by experts at the Center for Injury Research and Policy and Emergency Medicine.

As they are renowned for their toughness and capacity to keep things cold for extended periods, Yeti coolers have become a mainstay for many consumers. Roy and Ryan Seiders launched the company in 2006 after designing a cooler that could resist the damage that fishermen exert on their gear. Since then, the company’s product line has grown to include backpack coolers and cheaper drinkware, catering to a larger range of customers.

Consumers whose products are subject to the recall are asked to discontinue using them right now and get in touch with Yeti to get a full refund in the form of a gift card or a replacement item. By completing a form on the business’ website, customers will get a pre-paid shipping label and packing for returning the item from the firm. Although the customers who did not face any issues with their products may be disappointed by the recall, the company’s decision to put safety above profits shows its dedication to excellence and client happiness.
