Regina Georges, band together! Former Mean Girls member Reneé Rapp is introduced by Rachel McAdams in an unexpected SNL cameo

This weekend’s unexpected presence on Saturday Night Live by Rachel McAdams demonstrated her support for her fellow Regina. One statement thrilled the entire live audience, an act that Gretchen Wieners would later refer to as “so fetch.” The actress, who first terrified North Shore High as the head of Plastic in 2004’s Mean Girls, said just that.

“Ladies and gentlemen, once again, Reneé Rapp!” McAdams grinned and waved to the stage as the audience applauded her.

Afterwards, Rapp took the stage for her second performance of the evening as Regina in the recently released Mean Girls movie musical. Even better, Megan Thee Stallion unexpectedly burst out of a tiered cake during Rapp’s verse of “Not My Fault,” a song from the film’s soundtrack.

The three stars recreated a specific Spider-Man joke, which Megan, who raps that she is the “Black Regina George,” celebrated on Instagram following the son.
McAdams returned later that night for the sketch “Acting Class,” in which she played Natalie Partman, an actress struggling to succeed in Hollywood because of her striking resemblance to, yes, Rachel McAdams. At the end of the evening, she and the rest of the cast went on stage to say goodbye to the audience and give kisses to Other Regina, Rapp.

Given that McAdams has been missing most of the hype around the Mean Girls reunion, her appearance on Saturday Night Live was particularly unexpected. Lindsay Lohan was the only Plastic character to make an appearance at the remake’s New York City premiere. Alongside fellow MG stars Amanda Seyfried and Lacey Chabert, she also starred in a number of Walmart ads.

After the reunion, McAdams stated she was just not all that thrilled with the idea of doing a commercial.  She told Variety, “A movie sounded awesome, but I’ve never done commercials, and it just didn’t feel like my bag.” Additionally… I was unaware that it was being done by everyone. Of course, I would always want to hang out with my Plastics and be a part of a Mean Girls reunion, but I discovered that later.

Meanwhile, Rapp is living up to Regina’s role and enjoying the limelight. It should come as no surprise that the actress, who played Regina in the Mean Girls musical on Broadway, has received plaudits for both her hilarious portrayal in the new movie and her musical ability.
