In the city of Athens, Greece, an upcoming beatmaker is starting to make a name for himself in global music. John, who goes by Noyz in the music community, has brought a unique sound to the industry that is leaving a mark. At merely 21 years old, Noyz is already making waves with his unconventional approach to production, a path that goes back to before he even touched his first keyboard.
The Beginning: From Six Strings to Beats
John’s journey into music began at an early age. His home was filled with various musical influences from his mother’s piano to his father’s drums. As a result of this musical environment, John was naturally infected with the “music virus.” By the age of 8, John had already begun creating tracks entirely by ear, with no formal knowledge of music theory.
“I started playing the guitar in 2009,” John says. “I didn’t bother with music theory, either; I wanted to play and that was that. Everything I did was all done by ear.” As John’s instincts led him towards music, it was something he kept developing. He learned complex classical pieces by ear and would never read music to learn a song.
It wasn’t until 2018 that John’s path drastically shifted. He came across a video on YouTube of a known beatmaker making beats, which ultimately ignited a new spark within him. The idea of creating full extended pieces, just using a MIDI keyboard, excited him. John went and bought a MIDI keyboard, once again, skipped the music theory tutorials, and began to make hip-hop.
Describing his creative process, John shares, “I usually close my eyes and listen; I just go, figure out if it works, or if it feels good.” This method has become the core of John’s artistic message, allowing him to make tracks that are driven purely by his imagination.
Creating a Unique Sound in a Saturated Market
In a genre where many of the songs are arranged in the same format, Noyz says his music stands out. “I think my style adds a breath of fresh air,” he notes. By not following “the rules” of traditional music theory, John is ahead of the game in constantly evolving and pushing his sound forward.
John got into music production by making beats and then sharing them online which connected him to artists around the globe. One of those early connections was with Philly artist Diamond Blacc. Noyz remixed a Diamond Blacc track and the two started to work together to make music. “Shoutout Diamond Blacc,” John nods. “He is one of the nicest people that I have ever worked with and really helped me showcase my work.”
Inspiring Through His Music
For John, music is much more than sounds—it is a universal connection, a tool that evokes emotions. “I aim to make many feelings for anyone who chooses to listen to my work,” he shares. “That is the beauty of music. Someone from China to Colorado could feel something from clicking a button.” And his favorite part of making music? Meeting and working with artists from all over the world, and having so many global connections, that there is always a thought or emotion to inspire his next work.
Vision for the Future
Looking ahead, Noyz’s vision is simple yet profound: to keep creating. He has no grand plans for fame or fortune—just a deep-seated desire to continue making music that resonates with listeners. “Go hard or go home,” he says, encapsulating his relentless drive with a quote that mirrors his personal brand.
Life Lessons from a Young Beatmaker
John’s journey, though still in its early stages, has already taught him valuable life lessons. His advice to others? “Keep your circle small and definitely don’t trust everybody on the internet.” It’s a reminder that, in an increasingly digital world, genuine connections are rare and precious.
As he continues to evolve as an artist, Noyz remains a name to watch. His journey is a testament to the power of passion and the boundless possibilities that come from following one’s instincts. Whether you’re an artist looking for collaboration or a music lover seeking something fresh, Noyz’s beats are sure to leave a lasting impression.
