Westrin James, a songwriter and producer, helps the artists of the USA/AUS/UK thrive while also focusing on the music talent in Asia.
It is a well-renowned fact that music has no language. People love music that generates a strong scope for real talent to find its ground. While there is a plethora of talent in the traditional urban/r&b/pop music markets, Westrin is now also embracing the talent that is ripe in the emerging urban/r&b/pop music markets.That is where Westrin James wants to step in and hold the command.
Westrin’s Background
Westrin James started studying music as a primary school kid in Australia. His first instrument was saxophone and he had acquired a fairly high level of proficiency at a very young age. One of his best friends was heavily involved in music as a DJ and was working as an A&R for Sony Music Australia. This motivated Westrin to compose and write his own songs. Looking at the enthusiasm that Westrin had for music, his mother bought him some more equipment and he began writing and composing. Earlier, he would just make songs for himself until he was asked to play at friends’ parties. From there, he learned that people admired his music and as an added advantage of being surrounded by the musicians, he got a lot of exposure.
Despite the profound capabilities of being a songwriter and composer, Westrin has always enjoyed being behind the artist in studio writing, composing and producing. He has been called a studio monk because he spent most of his time in the studio working with various artists. This led him to a point where he is comfortable and confident in having his own studio in Hong Kong.
Future Visions
After spending a lot of time producing music with the artists in Australia, the US, and the UK, Westrin was introduced to the artists in Asia by his good friend David Stouck at Warner Music Asia. It changed Westrin’s perspective and he became curious about working with various artists in Asian countries. Hence, Westrin built a really beautiful studio in Hong Kong where his aim is to create a space for artists to be most comfortable, creative, and still professional. He prefers to focus on the present rather than the past. In 2022, he is planning to work with more talented artists both in Asia, with Young Hysan as well as in the US with Grimstepper. His new studio has been created to be a safe space for the budding artists where Westrin can do most of the background work and help the artists in this part of the world. He wants to work with a lot of artists, and his job is to keep writing and checking in with them from time to time to see if his words resonate with the artists.
