At some point or another, we all have experienced a passionate, all-consuming love. One that renders us unable to make rational decisions, and drives us to the point of insanity. Musician Lennie Rayen has captured this rollercoaster of emotion in her debut release, “Me and You.” The new artist is a 19-year-old indie/alternative singer & songwriter from Ontario, Canada. Explaining the song, she says, “I’ve recently released my single “Me & You” where I write about being infatuated with one person almost to the point of insanity. Where you know that the relationship is not real, but they are all you can think of. It’s really just about confusing love with infatuation, when you start to feel a little bit crazy for someone.”

Her Journey Till Date And Her Inspiration

Lennie got into music from an early age, and soon found music to be her one true passion.I started by learning piano when I was around 5 or 6, and from there I picked up guitar & eventually became interested in writing. I grew up listening to more alternative music which has influenced my own sound.” She’s influenced by artists such as – Lana Del Rey, Amy Winehouse, Julia Jacklin, and Leonard Cohen.

Lennie believes that growing up with the thought of being a musician as a career path can result in judgment from others. “Any artist that lacks exposure like myself probably has experienced this. People look at you as someone with unrealistic goals. This really used to bother me, but at the end of the day this is my life and this is what realistic looks like for me.” She chose to fearlessly pursue her dream and her own idea of reality. She hopes to inspire people to be genuine & create freely, especially in a world where comparison & judgment are very prevalent. This is something she tries to encourage with her music & social media presence.

Her Favourite Part Of The Job

Lennie acknowledges writing to be her favorite part of the job. “I’ve always been highly influenced & impacted by song lyrics on a day-to-day basis.” She considers the writing process of her music the easiest and the most fluid way to express herself. “Most of my writing is autobiographical, a deep dive into my own life experiences,” she goes on, “Other times I like to keep my lyrics more experimental or indirect so people can interpret them in their own way.”

Effect Of Covid On Her Music And  Future Plans

The pandemic seemed to have a good effect on her music, Lennie started writing a lot more during the pandemic. Although there were times when she felt uninspired or had writer’s block, overall she says she has written a lot more during covid.

Her future plans are actually quite humble and true to her passion, “to just keep creating & releasing more music.”
