Lyubov Kay is an up-and-coming pop artist from Toronto who has been making her mark in the music industry. Her upcoming EP promises a refreshing take on life experiences, filled with themes of self-discovery, heartbreak, and nostalgia. The first single “every color” is set for release in January 2023, and will set the stage for what’s to come.
For many, going on stage can be terrifying, but Lyubov loves to entertain people and feels elated every time she goes up there. “I loved singing for as long as I can remember! I would get up on stage and feel like I was in my comfort zone, holding the mic and staring back at the crowd,” she says. Lyubov’s musical journey started as a child. Before her parents bought her a piano, she would venture into her imagination and draw piano keys on sheets of paper to learn to play the instrument. She naturally gravitated towards all things creative, writing poetry and eventually merging poetry and voice. It only took Lyubov 30 minutes to create her first song, and songwriting has been an indispensable part of her life ever since.
“The ability of music to connect people in different parts of the world has always been fascinating to me,” she says.
Music is a language that everyone understands. “Closing your eyes with headphones blasting music in your ears, knowing someone across the world could be listening to the same song with an entirely different experience is such a powerful thing,” Kay says. Creating music that moves the audience is a challenge, but Lyubov Kay and her resilience are of the cadre that reflects her determination to create something unique.
Always Moving Ahead
At a point in her life, Lyubov took a pause from sharing her music but later returned to her passion and took the giant leap to go all in, even with the fear of being judged. “I hope that others will see my story and realize that what we perceive as limitations are only barriers we build in our minds,” she says.
She started with the holy grail of music, “Youtube”, posting mesmerizing covers and translating songs from different languages to English. Her unique take on content creation amassed over 4,000 subscribers, building the initial listener base for her music debut. She says she owes a lot of her success to her family and friends who have been there at her lowest and encouraged her to keep evolving.
Music has always been her true companion and she draws inspiration from her own experiences and those around her. The creative process behind creating a song is her favorite part. This charismatic artist is fascinated by how lyrics, melodies, visuals, and emotion can transform into an unbelievable symphony. She hopes that people can find a piece of themselves in her songs, and connect to them on a deeper level. “I love the thrill of performing live and seeing the instant reactions on people’s faces. It’s incredible to feed off the energy in the room,” she says.
