The Most Awaited Musical “Everybody Is Talking About Jamie” Finally Makes It To The Audience.

With the continuous postponements in the release, due to the covid 19 concerns, the movie is finally going to be released in September 2021. The bewitching trailer of the glamorous musical comedy was released on August 10th. ‘Everybody Is Talking About Jamie’ is the adaptation of the critically acclaimed West End musical of the same name. The movie revolves around the struggles of a 16-year-old teenager, Jamie New, played by Max Harwood. Jamie is on his journey to figure out what he wants to be and do while attempting to overcome the obstacles of prejudice, self-identification, and discrimination.

The Trailer

The trailer begins with Jamie daydreaming of himself performing and dancing as a drag queen in the clubs, dancing heavily around the cafeteria tables considering them as his runaway from the monotony of his typical and boring school. The trailer begins heating up when Jamie removes the sparkling red sandals from his bag and spills the beans about his long-cherished secret of becoming a drag queen to his best friend Pritti Pasha, played by Lauren Patel.

We can witness the struggles of any queer teenager through the story of Jamie. The picture of a non-accepting society, where being queer is already difficult for anyone, and how the fact of having dreams in such an environment can be a horrible experience, is portrayed fabulously. To add to Jamie’s pain, his father and career advisor are unsupportive of his dream.

Jamie constantly battles his self-doubts, questioning whether he should conform to social expectations and get a “real” career. “Do you ever just wish I was just — ‘normal’?” he asks his mom, played by Sarah Lancashire. She clears his confusion with a wise point: “No, what is ‘normal’ anyway?” Even his best friend Pritti has some encouraging words, “Stop waiting for permission to be you.”

Inspiration Behind The Movie

The film and music are inspired by Jenny Popplewell’s 2011 documentary Jamie: Drag Queen at 16. This movie adaptation is the directorial debut of Jonathan Butterell and will also star actors like Shobna Gulati, Adeel Akhtar, and Samuel Bottomley. The movie will see the cameos from John McCrea, the original West End actor who played Jamie; Bianca del Rio, RuPaul’s Drag Race winner and the London production actor for Loco; and the real-life Jamie Campbell.

The film will also feature some hit songs from the musical like “And You Don’t Even Know It,” “The Wall in My Head” and the titular “Everybody’s Talking About Jamie.” An exclusive new track for the film called “This Was Me” was also recorded to add to the glam of the film.

Release & Premiere

Originally set to be released in theaters on October 23, 2020 – Everybody’s Talking About Jamie was postponed to January 22, 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After many cancellations and delays, now the new dates for the release and premiere are set to September 17, 2021 via Amazon Prime Video.
