COVID-19 has bent the world to its knees by forceful changes in its working patterns. Right from the introduction of work from home to the compulsion of masks, fear for life, and what not! Covid has plagued it all. Its impacts could be seen in every sector. In the recent events of action, the Emmy awards are to be hosted in an open environment in limited presence due to covid fears.

About Emmy Awards

EMMY – one of the most prestigious award ceremonies, hosted each year to celebrate and recognize the recent achievements of the television industry. The 73rd edition of the Emmy Awards, which was scheduled to happen on September 19 is now to be held outdoors according to a decision made on Thursday, due to the rising concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Television Academy said in a statement, “The TelevisionAcademy and CBS have decided to host all ceremonies on the Event Deck at L.A. LIVE, directly behind the Microsoft Theater”.

The Event Deck – New Venue For The Emmy Awards

The Event deck, located in downtown Los Angeles, is a huge open space covered only with tents. The reason behind choosing this venue, is the social distancing guidelines issued by the government.

In their recent announcement, the organizers have also talked about the number of attendees. They said, “Unfortunately, this means not all nominees will be able to attend this year’s awards.” Meaning, there is also a curb in the number of nominees who will be attending the ceremony.

Last year, the award ceremony took place at its regular venue, the only difference was in the presence of its audience. It was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, and all the nominees had joined the ceremony virtually from their homes and gardens.

Emmy Nominations For 2021

The nominations for this year were announced via live stream from ShowPro Live Studios in Los Angeles in the last month. Disney’s “Star Wars” series “The Mandalorian” and the most loved Netflix royal drama “The Crown” bagged 24 Emmy Nominations. Followed by the marvel superhero spin-off “WandaVision” earning 23 nominations in the limited series category, which is the second-highest. This can be said as one of the big achievements of Disney’s new streaming service.

Delta Variant & The New Restrictions

The increasing cases of the Delta variant of the Covid-19 virus have again forced the government to impose strict restrictions on the citizens. The government has made it compulsory to wear masks at all the places of public gatherings like offices, buses, schools, colleges, etc.

The fears of the implications of the delta variant have also forced many celebrities and events to either cancel or postpone all their scheduled events. Singer Stevie Nicks, 73, had to cancel five concerts she had scheduled for 2021, due to the Delta Variant concerns. She announced the cancellation through a Twitter post saying, “While I’m vaccinated, at my age, I am still being extremely cautious and for that reason have decided to skip the five performances I had planned for 2021”.
