The much-anticipated Cruel Intentions TV adaptation has officially been canceled after just one season. The 2024 series, inspired by the 1999 cult classic film, debuted in November but will not return for a second installment.
The show faced a turbulent journey before its release, initially being developed on a different platform in 2021 before landing on its final streaming destination in 2023. Prior to this, other attempts to revive the franchise—such as a prequel series and a network pilot—also failed to move forward.
Starring Sarah Catherine Hook, Zac Burgess, Savannah Lee Smith, Sara Silva, John Harlan Kim, Khobe Clarke, Sean Patrick Thomas, and Brooke Lena Johnson, the series followed the elite students of Manchester College, where reputation was everything. The storyline revolved around two ruthless step-siblings, Caroline Merteuil and Lucien Belmont, who stopped at nothing to maintain their social dominance. Their schemes intensified after a hazing scandal threatened the Greek life system, forcing them into a web of manipulation, seduction, and deception.
The original 1999 movie, based on the novel Les Liaisons Dangereuses, starred Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, Reese Witherspoon, and Selma Blair. It became a defining teen drama of its time, known for its dark, twisted storytelling and iconic performances.

Despite high expectations, the latest adaptation struggled to capture audiences, leading to its cancellation. While fans of the franchise may be disappointed, the legacy of Cruel Intentions remains strong, continuing to influence pop culture decades after its debut.
