Competitors’ AI Technology Poses a New Threat to Google’s Search Engine

Google has been a giant search engine for more than 20 years, dominating its rivals in terms of features and the number of users. However, the recent revolution in AI has brought is creating serious difficulties for Google, which is undermining its monopoly. Recent artificial intelligence (AI) technologies by rivals like Microsoft’s Bing, pose a threat to Google’s position as the default search engine on Samsung devices.

 

Samsung allegedly thought about switching from Google to Bing as its default search engine, shocking Google’s employees and sending the company into a state of shock. To compete with its rivals, Google is haphazardly trying to integrate its search engine with  AI-driven technology, with an estimated $3 billion in yearly income on the line. To provide users with more convenience and understand their preferences, the search engine giant is also  building its proprietary AI bot dubbed “Bard.”

 

Google fastened up its efforts to build AI technology after a San Francisco start-up OpenAI introduced a chatbot named ChatGPT in November, which has now partnered with Microsoft. Due to the disruption, AI caused in the technology sector, Google quickly formed a task force within its search division to start developing AI products.

Google’s obsession with modernizing its search engine may result in new AI technologies that it could install on phones and homes across the globe. The new features under the Magi project are currently being developed, and not all product ideas that are discussed result in a launch.

 

Considering its emphasis on AI, Google has been slow to fully deploy AI technology given its propensity to produce inaccurate and biased statements. With its DeepMind lab in London regarded as one of the greatest AI research facilities worldwide, Google has been doing AI research for many years. The company has also been among the pioneers in AI initiatives, including self-driving cars and sizable language models used in chatbot creation. Google has recently deployed extensive language models to raise the caliber of its search results.

 

Every day, billions of people use Google’s search engine for anything from interpreting medical diagnoses to discovering restaurants and finding directions. Any modification in the current capability of Google’s search engine would significantly impact the lives of common people. So, Google’s primary goal is to dominate the next big thing in the market by creating a new search engine that can challenge the AI technology of its competitors.
