Taylor Lautner is speaking out in defense of Selena Gomez, who has been facing relentless body-shaming on social media. The Twilight star took to Instagram to call out the harsh and unrealistic beauty standards imposed on women, emphasizing the need for kindness and self-acceptance.

Lautner shared a post originally highlighting the hypocrisy in how Gomez has been criticized for both weight gain and weight loss at consecutive SAG Awards. “Selena was mocked last year at the SAG Awards for putting on weight, told to go on Ozempic. At this year’s SAG Awards, she’s slammed for losing weight, mocked for allegedly being on Ozempic,” the post stated. It further pointed out how this scrutiny extends beyond celebrities, affecting all women who are subjected to impossible societal expectations.

Having personally experienced public scrutiny over his own physique post-Twilight, Lautner resonated with the message and added his own perspective: “It’s a cruel world full of hate out there. You can never please everyone nor should you have to.” He emphasized that true self-worth is not defined by appearance, urging his followers to “be a little bit nicer” and appreciate themselves for who they truly are.

Selena Gomez has long been vocal about dealing with body-shaming, especially as she manages health challenges stemming from her lupus diagnosis. Since revealing her condition in 2015 and undergoing a kidney transplant in 2017, Gomez has openly discussed how her medication and health factors contribute to natural weight fluctuations. Despite this, public scrutiny has remained relentless, prompting her to repeatedly advocate for self-love and body positivity.

Lautner’s statement serves as a reminder of the toxic environment that social media can foster, particularly for public figures. His call for kindness echoes a larger conversation about shifting the focus from appearance to self-acceptance, reinforcing the need for empathy in an age where online criticism has become increasingly vicious.

As the conversation continues, it’s evident that voices like Lautner’s play a crucial role in challenging harmful narratives and fostering a culture of positivity. The message is clear: no one should be defined by their body, and it’s time to move beyond the outdated and damaging standards that society continues to push.
