Nicole Ngo is all about passion and dreams. These are qualities that make her a promising R&B artist – and a strong musician. The Los Angeles-based singer released her first single, “Like That” in summer 2020. She got many humming to the tunes of her second single “Distance” which released in January 2021 with a visual on YouTube. She dropped “Jaded” on all platforms in April 2021 and recently launched her single “Let Go” featuring Noeha Rose on August 6th.
Fans call her ‘Neekull’ as they admire her silky vocal and playful songwriting. Neekull is making her way up in contemporary R&B/ Pop. In 2016, Neekull attended Los Angeles College of Music where she explored all possibilities with music. Neekull did not grow up with a musical family but was always fascinated with music and how it triggers people’s emotions or alleviates them from their emotions. Her journey is one of love and sheer dedication to music.
When Nicole Became ‘Neekull’
For Nicole, singing was always something she had within her. It started off as a personal form of expression. Not until she was in high school and her parents started asking about what career she wanted to pursue, did she decide to make a decision. At this time, Nicole was learning guitar and piano, writing songs and doing open mics. Slowly, Nicole recognized that the only thing she ever stuck by was music. And when she had to make a decision of what to take up as a profession, Nicole couldn’t think of getting away from what she loved – ‘music’. Then, there was no looking back. In 2016, she attended the Los Angeles College of Music (LACM) where Nicole discovered music, being exposed to different styles/ genres/ skills/ forms and the technicalities of each. She definitely had the emotional side of it, but to work on technique grew her artistry. While attending LACM, Nicole wasted no time and collaborated with her classmates and learned from everybody around her. From creating bands, to being featured in other’s work, that was the start of Neekull.
Neekull In Covid-19 And Beyond
Nicole’s favourite part about music is the process. She loves the creative part when she is in the studio contemplating ideas with her team or producer. Even when Neekull gets music sent to her to write, she gets excited. It is then she is most present and in the moment that she enjoys it a lot.
COVID-19 impacted Neekull in the sense that she couldn’t perform live or interact as much. She could not visit her studio or meet her team often. But the recent situation allowed her to further herself as a recording artist. She had more time to focus on writing and creating, as well as recording herself. She had to adjust as everybody did, and figure out how to continue creating in her bedroom all the time. Neekull inspires us to keep following our dreams no matter the circumstance. What is awaited to be seen is how contemporary R&B buff Neekull will pave the path for herself and emerge as someone whose music is on everyone’s playlist.
